How does Botox work?
To fully understand a lip flip, you must first understand how Botox works! Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected superficially into the muscles and tells the nerves to stop sending signals to the muscles. Overtime, this causes the muscles to weaken and stop contracting.
So what is a lip flip?
Simply put, your provider will inject a small amount of Botox into the muscle above the lip. This will relax that area + turn the top lip out. A lip flip gives you the appearance of a fuller lip, without actually adding any volume to it.
This is a great procedure for anyone who is on the fence about lip filler or if you are seeking a more subtle result.
Lip filler vs lip flip
This is a question we get all the time in the clinic. There are a few important factors when deciding if you should get lip filler or a lip flip.
Goals: Your end goal/desired result is a huge factor in deciding to get a lip flip or lip filler.
A lip flip is going to give you the subtle appearance of a fuller lip. Your provider is injecting Botox into the muscle above your upper lip. You might have a small bruise, but you can resume your normal routine after a lip flip. Lip flips last around 6 months.
Whereas with lip filler, your provider is injecting a hyaluronic acid filler directly into your lips to add volume. You may experience some swelling + bruising with lip filler. Lip filler lasts 6-9+ months.
