What is Microneedling + When Will I See Results?

Microneedling Treatment on forehead | Arabella Medical Aesthetics | Knoxville, TX

Microneedling has become such a popular treatment in the past few years! We sat down with Nurse Practitioner, Claire Cross, to ask/answer all of your burning questions!

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses a handheld device called the skinpen that creates hundreds of thousands of very small micro-injuries in the skin. These injuries stimulate the body’s healing and cause tissue regeneration and collagen + elastin stimulation.

What skin issues can I treat with microneedling?

Microneedling with the Skinpen was created originally to help people with acne scarring, but they found that was also beneficial for many other things as well. Along with acne scarring, Microneedling is also great for helping improve skin texture, pore size, improve fine lines and wrinkles, and gives skin a smoother, brighter appearance.

Is there any downtime?

We tell patients that it can be normal to have ~24-72 hours of redness and/or mild swelling. The feeling is going to be similar to having a mild sunburn. Your skin may purge (breakout) a few days after treatment if you are more oily or acne prone, but will subside after a few days. You may have some dryness or flaking a few days post treatment.

You can apply makeup, if needed, 24 hours after treatment. We recommend avoiding products that contain vitamin C, A, retinol, or alcohol until your skin returns to normal (usually within a few days).

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients will benefit from a series of 3 treatments. You may notice some positive improvements after just one treatment, but for more advanced lines/wrinkles, pores, or scarring, many people achieve their best results in 3 or more treatments.

Some people will also come in for a single treatment every few months to help maintain their results following a series.

When will I see results?

You may start to see some small changes over the next few days! However, your best results would follow a series and continue to improve over the next 3-6 months.

Are there any enhancements?

Yes! We have various enhancements you can add on to your treatment. Many people like to add PRF (or platelet-rich fibrinogen) to their treatment to use their body’s own growth factors and help speed up their healing time. You also have the option to add on other things such as hyaluronic acid, brightening serum, or firming serum.

Is it pregnancy safe?

Essentially, yes!

However, we always recommend confirming with your OBGYN prior to coming in for treatment.
