What is Kybella?
Kybella, or Deoxycholic acid, is a prescription injectable medication that is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin, aka the “double chin” area. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that our body produces to help absorb fat. When used as an injectable in areas with excess fat, the acid works to permanently destroy fat cells and prevent them from further accumulating or storing fat.
I want the results of liposuction, but without the downtime…
While there is no actual downtime with kybella, there are some typical side effects to keep in mind. The most common side effects is swelling to the treated area. We like to tell patients that the area typically doubles in size for approximately 48 hours after treatment due to swelling. Other common side effects may include mild swelling up to 2 weeks, bruising, redness, or soreness.
Am I going to need multiple treatments?
The exact number of treatments varies from person to person, as well as the amount of adipose tissue in the area being treated. The most common number of treatments however is between two and four treatments.
When will I start to see results?
Some people may start to notice subtle results around a month after their first treatment, but most commonly patients will start to see results after their second treatment. It is recommended to schedule the appointments 4-6 weeks apart.
How long do Kybella results last?
Results from Kybella are actually permanent! The fat cells that were treated are permanently destroyed and can no longer accumulate or store fat.
Can everyone get Kybella?

Contraindications to treatment with Kybella include (but are not limited to): those under 18 years of age, active or recent infection to the treatment area, those who are pregnant or nursing, and/or difficulty swallowing.
